School Visits with Homegrown Stories

School Visit Requirements

To ensure a successful author visit, please note the following:

  • Book Order Forms: The school must send home a hard-copy book order form with each student approximately one week before the visit. This allows families to pre-order books. All books will be both signed and personalized on the day of the event.

  • Grade Levels: The author must present to at least three grade levels. Typically, she speaks to all grades K–5 during the visit.

  • Space & Setup: A classroom, library, or auditorium space with a projector or screen (if available) works best. Please provide a microphone for large groups.

  • Session Length: Presentations are 30–45 minutes, including Q&A. Adjustments can be made for younger or older grade levels.

  • Multiple Sessions: For larger schools, multiple sessions can be scheduled so students can have an interactive, age-appropriate experience.

Our goal is to make the visit both educational and inspiring—bringing reading, science, and creativity to life for every student.

Cost

Visits are free or nearly free (depending on travel distance). Local visits are always free.

  • Q&A Time: Students can ask about books, writing, and the magic of discovery.

Age Range

Best for PreK – 5th grade, though activities can be adapted for older students.
